Historical note
The Beekman House, also known as Mount Pleasant, was built by James Beekman in 1765. It was occupied by the British during the American Revolutionary War, and it was visited by George Washington during his presidency. It was torn down in 1875. The building was located in Manhattan, near the East River (present day East 50th Street and Beekman Place).
