Abstract

Taken in March of 1988 by Arthur Vitols, the photographs show interior views of workers, scaffolding, and portions of the gallery under construction. There is also one photograph of exhibit builder and furniture maker Ethan Intrater at his shop standing next to a model of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Historical note

The Shellens Gallery is located on the first floor of Brooklyn Historical Society's landmarked building in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood. In 1988, the architectural firm Jan Hird Pokorny Associates lead and completed the restoration and construction of the 4,000 square foot auditorium and gallery space.

Scope and Contents

The Shellens Gallery construction photographs document the restoration and construction of the Shellens Gallery that is located within the Brooklyn Historical Society building. The collection includes 10 black-and-white 8 x 10 inch prints, one contact sheet, one 5 x 7 inch print, and negatives. Taken in March of 1988 by Arthur Vitols, the photographs show interior views of workers, scaffolding, and portions of the gallery under construction. There is also one photograph of exhibit builder and furniture maker Ethan Intrater at his shop standing next to a model of the Brooklyn Bridge.
