The Ralph Irving Lloyd lantern slides, spanning the period circa 1890 to 1920, measure 3.5 linear feet and are housed in seven lantern slide boxes. The collection consists of (roughly) 400 black-and-white lantern slides, created by Lloyd, that depict 17th, 18th, and 19th century historic houses, homesteads, churches, storefronts, cemeteries and sepulchral monuments (gravestones), and schools in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan; and 19th and early 20th century street scenes of Brooklyn. The images of buildings are predominantly exterior views, but the collection does have several interior views. The collection also includes several images of locations in New York State and in Pennsylvania.
The collection is organized into three series: Series 1: Lantern slides of Brooklyn; Series 2: Lantern slides of Queens; and Series 3: Lantern slides of Manhattan and other locations

Series 1: Lantern slides of Brooklyn, circa 1890 to circa 1920
This series consists of black-and-white lantern slides of Brooklyn, taken by Lloyd, that depict 17th and 18th century historic houses, homesteads, churches, and schools in Brooklyn; 19th century storefronts in Brooklyn; 19th and 20th century street scenes of Brooklyn; and historic cemeteries and sepulchral monuments (gravestones) in Brooklyn. The series also contains lantern slides that document some of Lloyd's other interests including views of street cats from Lloyd's neighborhood in Brooklyn and images of old Brooklyn maps (presumably used for lectures), among others.
Series 2: Lantern slides of Queens, circa 1890 to circa 1920
This series consists of black-and-white lantern of views of Queens, taken by Lloyd, that depict 17th and 18th century historic houses and homesteads in Queens; and historic cemeteries and sepulchral monuments (gravestones) in Queens. The locations primarily documented in the series include Jamaica, Flushing, Corona, Astoria, and Maspeth.
Series 3: Lantern slides of Manhattan and other locations, circa 1890 to 1920
This series consists of black-and-white lantern slides taken by Lloyd of views primarily of Manhattan. Views of streets and buildings in the neighborhoods of Greenwich Village and Wall Street are highly represented in the series. The series also contains a small number of non-Manhattan related images including views of areas in New Paltz, N.Y. and in Bethlehem and Lancaster, PA.; cows; and unidentified people.
