Scope and Contents

Series 2: Joseph Grant, Jr. presidents' files, 1956-2025, includes the files of past presidents of the Gamma Iota Lambda chapter. Herman Washington and Hobart Jarrett are the presidents most represented in this series. The materials are similar to the types of materials in Series 1: Organizational files, but there are few duplicates. Types of materials include correspondence, memos, newsletters, event programs and invitations, and meeting minutes.

The last folder in this series contains funeral programs and obituaries for some Gamma Iota Lambda chapter members who died between 2006 and 2025.

Biographical note

Joseph Grant, Jr. was born on May 13, 1948 in Manhattan, New York. He graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn and received his master's degree in health administration from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. He was a member of the Delta Chi chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and then became a member of the Gamma Iota Lambda chapter as a graduate. Grant served as Vice President from 2000-2001 and then President from 2001-2022. He also served as Chaplain. Grant worked for the hospital at SUNY Downstate during his career. He died on May 23, 2025.
