Abstract
The collection consists of seven boxes of index cards, each containing genealogical information on families from the former towns of Flatbush, Flatlands, and Gravesend, in Kings County, New York. Those towns now comprise the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Flatbush, East Flatbush, Flatlands, Midwood, Gravesend, and Sheepshead Bay, among others. The genealogical records were assembled in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Theodore B. Hennenlotter from public and private records. It includes information dating back to the late 17th century.
Biographical note
Theodore Bernard Hennenlotter (1880-1960) was a genealogist from Brooklyn, New York. He was born in New York on July 27, 1880. He married Elizabeth M. Husemann on April 15, 1908. They had two daughters, Marie J. (1909-1991) and Edna C. (1913-1995). The Hennenlotters lived at various residences in Brooklyn, including 1534 Flatbush Avenue (1906), 3408 Newkirk Avenue (1906-1908), 3411 Farragut Road/341 Avenue F (1913), and on East 29th Street (1920s). Theodore was an active member of the Flatbush Coucil of the Knights of Columbus and the Order of Alhambra from the 1910s to the 1940s. In the 1950s he moved to New Jersey to live with his daughters. He died in Bloomfield, New Jersey, in 1960.
