The papers contain correspondence, invoices, and legal documents, mostly regarding land and coal mining investments in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and California. The papers date from 1827 to 1892, the bulk of which date from 1860 to 1882. It also includes maps, account books, and ephemera (clippings, business cards, envelopes, etc.).
Biographical note
William W. Hooper was a businessman who lived at 209 Raymond Street, Brooklyn, New York (now known as Ashland Place) in the mid to late 19th century.

The papers contain correspondence, invoices, and legal documents, mostly regarding land and coal mining investments in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and California. The papers date from 1827 to 1892, the bulk of which date from 1860 to 1882.
It also includes maps, account books, and ephemera (clippings, business cards, envelopes, etc.).
Items not directly related to Hooper's business interests include poetry, the Church of the Good Shepherd's treasurer's book (1875-1879), and the diaries of W. P. Stevens (1859-1862).
