Abstract
The David S. Beasley family papers consists of a photocopied typescript entitled "Recollections of a Half a Century Ago," by Beasley (1904), three photocopies of Beasley family portraits (circa 1870s to 1890s), and genealogical papers regarding David S. Beasley (circa 1994).
Biographical note
David Samuel Beasley (1839-1917) was born in the Village of Wallabout (situated in what is now the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York), on May 1, 1839. A lifelong resident of Brooklyn, he worked in the sash and blind business and the building industry. He later resided at 187 Van Buren Street. He was married twice, first to Victoria Francis Lyons in 1859, and later to Jane "Jenny" Bryan in 1875. He had eight children. He died in 1917 and is buried in the Cypress Hills Cemetery.

The David S. Beasley family papers consists of a photocopied typescript entitled "Recollections of a Half a Century Ago," by Beasley (1904), three photocopies of Beasley family portraits (circa 1870s to 1890s), and genealogical papers regarding David S. Beasley (circa 1994).
"Recollections of a Half a Century Ago" was delivered by Beasley to the Young Men's Social Union of the Sumner Avenue M. E. Church in February 1904. It recounts his youth in mid-19th century Brooklyn, with topics including the Village of Wallabout, Brooklyn streets and roads, Fort Greene, urban development, and the rural nature of Kings County.
