Scope and Contents

This collection contains clippings and publications about various Brooklyn and New York historical events. Topics include the Bushwick Riot of 1696; William Alexander, Earl of Stirling (in a booklet written by Charles Ditmas and published by the Kings County Historical Society); the Lott family; coats of arms of Colonial era American families; Henry Remsen and the Bank of the Manhattan Company; Brooklyn's first schoolteacher; the unveiling of a Battle of Brooklyn monument in Green-Wood Cemetery; and Newtown (oversize newspaper supplement in flat file). The collection also includes one Hyde's Pocket Map of Queens, dated 1908 (in flat file). Additionally, there is a set of clippings comprising a serialized version of Georgia Fraser's 1910 novel Crow-Step, which is a romance set during the Dutch colonial era in Brooklyn. A 1955 clipping from the Hanover Gazette covers an award won by Bill Cunningham, whose connection to the other contents of this collection is unclear.
