Abstract

The collection contains 26 pages of handwritten notes and photocopies of published research material covering the Montauk Indians of Long Island, Lion Gardiner, Wyandanch, and Arthur W. Benson.

Historical note

Arthur W. Benson was taken to court by the Montauks in an attempt to retain their tribal lands that Benson purchased in 1885.

The collection contains 26 pages of handwritten notes taken while Ariadne Valsamis was a volunteer performing research for the Brooklyn Historical Society's archives staff. Topics covered include: the Montauk Indians of Long Island, Lion Gardiner, Wyandanch, and Arthur W. Benson.
