One 1887 handwritten letter from former congressman Simeon B. Chittenden to a friend concerning a visit to Washington, D.C.
Biographical note
Simeon B. Chittenden (1814-1889) was a United States Representative from New York and served as vice president of the New York City Chamber of Commerce. He resided in Brooklyn at 18 Pierrepont Street and he is buried at Green-Wood Cemetery.
Historical note
Chittenden had traveled to Washington, D.C. to serve as a delegate to the General Christian Conference, under the auspices of the Evangelical Alliance. While there, he also spoke on the House floor.
