The Gilbert Reid papers relate to Reid's personal and business activities. Documents include notes on legal questions, drafts of letters regarding collection of finances, a check book, personal deeds, mortgages, agreements, title searches, and office records. Neighborhoods represented in the collection via property records include Brooklyn Heights (lots between Middagh, Cranberry, Columbia and Willow Streets and one at Henry and Pierrepont Streets) and Crown Heights (lots between Dean and Bergen Streets and Franklin and Classon Avenues). Surnames that appear in the collection include Sackett, Cowenhoven, and Vanderveer, and individuals include Lemuel Green and A.J. Spooner. The collection also includes an 1885 patent registered to David M. Bunnell for a method of drying grain.
