Abstract
The Brooklyn Democratic Club Silas Wright centennial dinner records include an announcement, programs, clippings, letters, and a ribbon regarding the club's dinner celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Silas Wright in 1895.
Historical note
The Brooklyn Democratic Club was located at 201 Montague Street. Officers of the Club were Harrington Putnam, President; Alexander Orr and others, Vice-Presidents; Sidney V. Lowell, Chairman of the Governing Committee; Frances Gottsberger, Treasurer; and Charles A. Kelly, Corresponding Secretary.
Biographical note
Silas Wright was born on May 24, 1795. He graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont in 1816. In 1824, he was elected as a New York State Senator. In 1826, he was elected to the U.S. House. From 1829-1833, he served as New York State Comptroller. From 1833-1844, he served as a United States Senator. In 1845, he took office as Governor of New York, but lost his reelection bid in 1846. He passed away on August 26, 1847.
