Abstract

The Roslyn Landmark Society Brooklyn land records span the period circa 1840 to 1880 and consist of handwritten notes on deeds and other documents pertaining to real estate transactions in Brooklyn. The Roslyn Landmark Society was founded in 1961 by Roger and Peggy Gerry for the purpose of preserving and protecting historical landmark sites in and around the village of Roslyn, New York, located on Long Island's North Shore.

Historical note

The Roslyn Landmark Society was founded in 1961 by Roger and Peggy Gerry for the purpose of preserving and protecting historical landmark sites in and around the village of Roslyn, New York, located on Long Island's North Shore. As of 2010, the Society operates and maintains the circa 1680 Van Nostrand-Starkins House as a museum, in addition to offering educational programs to school children, and maintaining an archive of historical materials that is open to the public by appointment.

Scope and Contents

The Roslyn Landmark Society Brooklyn land records span the period circa 1840 to 1880 and measure 0.42 linear feet. The records consist of handwritten notes on deeds and other documents pertaining to real estate transactions in Brooklyn. Included are lists of deeds, mortgages, and judgments on real estate transactions; lis pendens; and some hand-drawn property maps. The exact provenance of the materials is unknown, but they are all rendered in the same handwriting, indicating that they originate from a common creator.
