Abstract
One journal kept by James H. Fanning (b. 1833) of the town of Southampton, Long Island, N.Y., documenting a whaling voyage in the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) from 1860 to 1862 as well as a record of Fanning family births, marriages, and deaths throughout the period 1806 to 1918.

Scope and Contents
One journal kept by James H. Fanning (b. 1833) of the town of Southampton, Long Island, N.Y., documenting a whaling voyage in the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) from 1860 to 1862 aboard the bark Ontario of New Bedford, MA. The journal also includes a Fanning family record of births, marriages, and deaths throughout the period 1806 to 1918. The volume is covered with red cotton cloth and is hand sewn.
