Abstract
One bound volume of handwritten affidavits of election fraud in the Kings County election of 1871, compiled by the Kings County Committee for the Collecting of Evidence of Frauds and Outrages.
Historical note
The Kings County Committee for Collecting Evidence of Frauds and Outrages was a predominantly Republican group that protested the Democratic victory in the Kings County elections of 1871. The Committee conducted an investigation into election fraud on the part of the Democrats, which resulted in the indictment of eighteen individuals, five of whom were convicted.
Scope and Contents
One bound volume of handwritten affidavits of election fraud in the Kings County election of 1871, compiled by the Kings County Committee for the Collecting of Evidence of Frauds and Outrages. Each affidavit is a sworn statement attesting to the individual having observed some form of election fraud. Testimonies concerning African-Americans are included.
