The Bennett (sometimes spelled "Bennet") family was a multigenerational Brooklyn family descended from William Adrianse Bennet, who in 1636 purchased land from the Canarsee Native Americans and became one of the first European settlers of the present-day neighborhood of Gowanus. Certain members of the Bennett family later relocated to the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Flatbush, Flatlands, and Gravesend.
