Abstract

The Central Brooklyn Coordinating Council (CBCC) publications span the years 1965 to 1972 and are housed in one half manuscript box. Represented in the collection are newsletters and one annual report issued by the CBCC. The annual report dates from the 8th Annual General Meeting, held in 1966. The run of the newsletter includes the inaugural issue (August, 16, 1965) through October 1967. The run of the newsletter , begins with the inaugural issue published on March 9, 1968 and goes through May 1972.

Historical note

The Central Brooklyn Coordinating Council (CBCC) was established in 1957 for the improvement of the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. The CBCC focused on urban renewal projects, education and skills training, drug addiction treatment programs, employment workshops, mental health programs, cultural programs, police-community relations, youth services, and housing redevelopment among other issues. The CBCC advocated for community reform, renewal, and redevelopment in various ways including broadcasting public affairs radio programs on WWRL; publishing community newsletters such as The Central Brooklyn Coordinator (first published on August 16, 1965); and organizing conferences.
