Abstract

The Storm and Kolyer families papers and photographs span the years 1835 to 1918. Included in the collection are genealogical notes, land indentures, a bond, a marriage certificate, a jury duty summons, a wedding invitation, a church dismission for David Storms, correspondence pertaining to genealogy, a receipt for the purchase of fabric, a Kings County Supreme Court announcement for the auctioning of land in the Town of New Lots in Brooklyn, a baptism certificate, news clippings of obituaries relating to the Storm and Kolyer families, and photographs.

Biographical note

The Storm and Kolyer families lived in what is now the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn, N.Y. David Storm (1789-1839) married Jane Furman (1794-1837) on January 25, 1816.

The Storm and Kolyer families papers contain genealogical notes including marriage, birth, death, and address lists; a land indenture between Lambert Suydam of the Town of Newtown and David Storm of the City of Brooklyn for land in the Town of Flatbush in Brooklyn, 1835; a land indenture between James L. and Lucia Williams of the Town of New Lots, East New York (now a neighborhood in Brooklyn) and David Storm (written as Storms on the document) also of the Town of New Lots for land in the Town of New Lots in Brooklyn, 1853; a bond between David Storm to Smith Durland for the sum of $800 to be paid by Storm or his heirs, 1839; a marriage certificate for William K. Grant and Libbie R. Kolyer, both of Brooklyn, married on February 22, 1888 with Richard Kolyer and Mary L. Smythe as their witnesses; a summons to jury duty for David Storms, Jr. to attend a term of the Circuit Court and Court of Oyer and Terminer at City Hall in the City of Brooklyn, October 17, 1864 and dated September 26, 1864; an invitation for the wedding of Mamie L. Smythe and Richard V. Kolyer on September 5, 1888 in Woodhaven, Long Island; a church dismission for David Storms, 1875; correspondence regarding genealogical information for the Kolyer, Remsen, and Hegeman families; a receipt for the purchase of cloth, 1864; a Kings County Supreme Court announcement for the auctioning of land in the Town of New Lots in Brooklyn, 1877; certificate of baptism, 1918; and news clippings of obituaries relating to the Storm and Kolyer families.

The Storm and Kolyer families photographs consist of 49 black-and-white images including cabinet cards, cartes-de-visite, tintypes, and two copy negatives pertaining to the descendants of David Storm of the Town of New Lots, now the East New York neighborhood in Brooklyn. The photographs span the last half of the 19th century.
