Abstract
The Board of Supervisors of Kings County was the legislative body governing Kings County, New York. Taxes, bonds, and other county related laws were passed by the Board of Supervisors so long as the laws did not conflict with state or federal laws. A board member was elected from each ward in Kings County and an elected supervisor-at-large presided over the board. The Board of Supervisors of Kings County collection includes a tax ledger, 1835-1836 and a minute book, 1857.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Board of Supervisors of Kings County was the legislative body governing Kings County, New York. Taxes, bonds, and other county related laws were passed by the Board of Supervisors so long as the laws did not conflict with state or federal laws. A board member was elected from each ward in Kings County and an elected supervisor-at-large presided over the board. The supervisor-at-large had the power to veto the resolutions of the board. The minutes of meetings for the Board of Supervisors of Kings County were published in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle.
George W. Bleecker was a member of the New York State Assembly, Kings County 7th District, in 1858. He also served as representative of the 7th Ward on the Board of Supervisors of Kings County in 1857.

Scope and Contents note
The Board of Supervisors of Kings County collection includes a tax ledger, 1835-1836 and a minute book, 1857.
The tax ledger includes a tax roll and tax list for Wards 8 and 9. It is divided into sections including Gowanus, Flatbush Road, Bedford, Lugene Farm, and non-resident. Each entry lists the landowner's name, the value of the property, and the amount of taxes due. Also included is a statement by the Board of Supervisors of Kings County ordering Charles Lott to collect the taxes.
The Board of Supervisors of Kings County minute book, 1857, is a small notebook with news clippings of the minutes of the board meetings for that year pasted onto the pages of the book. The minute book was created by George W. Bleecker, a board member, and includes handwritten notes in the margins.
The collection also includes a piece of paper from Justice J.S. Laudon and E.M. Cullen certifying payment for services rendered as part of the Board of Supervisors of Kings County in 1894.
