Lion Gardiner (1599-1663) was an English colonist who founded the first English settlement on Long Island, New York. The collection contains fragments of what is believed to be a deed from the Indians to Lion Gardiner, circa 1639-1663. Presumably the deed is for Gardiners Island or other nearby property.
