Abstract
One photographic scrapbook documenting the last night of Brooklyn Dodgers baseball at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York, on September 24, 1957. The scrapbook was produced by the F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company for Dodgers owner and president Walter O'Malley. It includes photographs of baseball players, staff, sportscasters, sportswriters, fans, and Schaefer employees. Notable individuals featured in the photographs include Roy Campanella, Carl Erskine, Gil Hodges, Emmett Kelly, Sandy Koufax, Johnny Podres, and Vin Scully.
Historical note
F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company was founded by the Schaefer brothers in 1842. It operated in New York City, opening a brewery in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn in 1916. The Williamsburg brewery closed in 1976. The company was a prominent sponsor of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The Brooklyn Dodgers were established in 1883 as the Brooklyn Atlantics. Starting in 1913 they played at Ebbets Field, in what was then known as the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn (today known as Crown Heights), where they remained until 1957. The following year the team relocated to Los Angeles, California.
