Abstract
The Afghanistan Digital Library was a joint project of the New York University Libraries, the Department of Middle Eastern Studies, the Center for Near Eastern Studies, and the Center on International Cooperation, established in circa 2002. The website consists of digitized books, documents, and newspapers related to Afghani literature, poitics, economics, jurisprudence, the military, the government, and history from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Historical Note
The Afghanistan Digital Library was a joint project of the New York University Libraries, the Department of Middle Eastern Studies, the Center for Near Eastern Studies, and the Center on International Cooperation, established in circa 2002. It was created in response to damage and loss of Afghanistan's cultural heritage in the 1990s. The goal of the project was to make accessible Afghani publications in private and public collections digitally. In 2005, the project was awarded an National Endowment for the Humanities grant.

Scope and Contents
The Afghanistan Digital Library was a digitization project to make accessible Afghan publications from the period 1871-1930. The website consists of 576 digitized books, documents, and newspapers related to Afghani literature, poitics, economics, jurisprudence, the military, the government, and history. The bibliography capture on the website contains a list of prospective books, but not every book on the list was digitized. It appears the last time the digital archive was updated was in 2016.
