Abstract

Joseph French Johnson was dean of New York University's (NYU) School of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance from 1903 to 1925. This collection consists of a scrapbook about his life and work.

Biographical Note

Joseph French Johnson was born in Hardwick, Massachusetts, in 1853. He graduated from Harvard University in 1876. From 1881 to 1884, he worked as New England editor and city editor of the Springfield Republican before becoming financial editor of the Chicago Tribune. From 1893 to 1900, Johnson held professorships at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Finance and Economy. He became Professor of Political Economy at New York University in 1901, serving as dean of NYU's School of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance from 1903 until his death January 22, 1925.

This collection consists of a scrapbook on the life and work of Joseph French Johnson, dean of New York University's School of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance. Materials include a typed autobiography, as well as clippings, correspondence, and other items relating to Johnson's life. It was compiled by Lillian R. Block at NYU's School of Journalism in 1935.
