Eighteen color photographs taken by Lynn Butler. The images are included in Butler's 2022 book Flames Against the Dark: Saving America's Sacred Sites, which is also part of the collection.
Biographical / Historical
Lynn Hyman Butler (1953-) is a photographer, artist, and author born in New York. Her work has appeared in group exhibitions around the world, and her photographs are part of the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the International Center for Photography, among others.
Arrangement
Photographs were numbered by the archivist, and filed numerically in one folder. The titles of the photographs in the finding aid were taken from those found in Butler's 2022 book Flames Against the Dark, Saving America's Sacred Sites.
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of 18 color photographs taken by Lynn Butler. The images are included in Butler's 2022 book Flames Against the Dark: Saving America's Sacred Sites which Butler describes as "a visual journey into the spiritual heart of Native America." The collection includes a signed copy of the book, as well as an artist statement/bio.
